Les montages que je vous présente aujourd’hui remontent à quelques temps déjà et c’est l’originalité qui me les a fait choisir. En cherchant des décos qui sortent de l’ordinaire, je suis tombé par hasard sur des essais de décorations, demandés par l’US Navy en 1940, à un décorateur du nom de McClelland Barclay. Ces essais auraient été réalisés sur huit appareils : 2 Brewster Buffalo F2A, 2 SB2U Vindicator, 2 TBD1 Dévastator et 2 Bimoteur B18, sans certitude pour les B18. Les essais n’ayant pas été probants, ils n’ont jamais été appliqués. Certains connaissent certainement déjà ces décos, mais d’autres vont peut-être les découvrir. Les huit ne sont pas représentés, seuls trois le sont. Je vous laisse les découvrir en trois phases.
La première est la décos No7. La maquette est celle de l’Airfix au 1/72 de 1980 TBD1 Dévastator de la VT5. L’intérieur a été entièrement retravaillé celui-ci étant pratiquement vide. Toutes les commandes, hors les manches qui ont été quelque peu améliorés, sont en scratch ainsi que toute la structure sous la grande verrière, y compris l’extincteur. Les sièges sont aussi améliorés. Les fils de bougie ont été rajoutés. Les joints des raccords Karman ont été rebouchés avec du fil étiré et poncé. La profondeur a été découpée et braquée, et les guignols de commande refaits. Place aux photos pour celui-ci.
The montages that I present to you today go back some time already and it is the originality that made me choose them. While looking for unusual decorations, I stumbled upon attempts to decorate, requested by the US Navy in 1940, a decorator named McClelland Barclay. These tests were carried out on eight aircraft: 2 Brewster Buffalo F2A, 2 SB2U Vindicator, 2 TBD1 Devastator and 2 Twin-engine B18, without certainty for the B18. Since the tests were not conclusive, they were never applied. Some of them may already know about it, but others may discover it. The eight are not represented, only three are. I let you discover them in three phases.
The first is the No7 decos. The model is that of the Airfix at 1/72 of 1980 TBD1 Devastator of the VT5. The interior has been completely reworked this being practically empty. All controls, off the sleeves that have been somewhat improved, are scratch and all the structure under the large canopy, including the fire extinguisher. The seats are also improved. The spark plug wires have been added. The joints of the Karman fittings have been filled with stretched wire and sanded. The depth was cut and pointed, and the control horns redone. La maquette que j’ai prise pour cette déco, est la maquette du TBD1 Dévastator de Monogram au 1/48 de 1974. L’appareil représenté est un avion de la VT3. La maquette étant de bonne qualité, j’ai fait un montage « from in the box » sans me prendre la tête. Seule la déco a un peu d’originalité ce qui était le but quand je l’ai réalisée. The model I took for this decoration, is the model of the TBD1 Devastator Monogram 1/48 of 1974. The camera shown is a plane of the VT3. The model being of good quality, I made a montage « from in the box » without taking the lead. Only the decor has a little originality which was the goal when I realized it.
La troisième déco est la numéro 3 qui était appliquée sur un F2A Brewster Buffalo. La maquette est celle de Tamiya au 1/48 de 1990. Elle est montée « from in the box ». Seule la caméra, qui était montée sur le côté droit du capot, est rajoutée en scratch. Là encore, seule la déco m’intéressait. Une seule photo pour celle- là . The third decoration is the number 3 that was applied on an F2A Brewster Buffalo. The model is that of Tamiya at 1/48 of 1990. It is mounted « from in the box ». Only the camera, which was mounted on the right side of the hood, is added in scratch. Again, only the decoration interested me. Only one photo for this one.
