On ne présente plus le Corsair, c’est un classique, mais on ignore souvent combien ses débuts furent difficiles. La qualification sur porte-avions tourna au désastre et c’est ainsi que les Marines héritèrent des ces avions « pointus » dont ils ignoraient tout. On sait que les Marines sont des adeptes du roudoudou et donc, catapultés d’un PA d’escorte à Nouméa, ils allaient se poser à Turtle bay sur l’île de Santo aux Nlles-Hébrides, puis aprés une prise en main rapide, partirent s’installer à Guadalcanal pour la reconquête des Salomons. En Juillet 43, la VMF 213 est au combat . Au cours d’une mission sur Munda, le Lt George C. Defabio vit une partie de son aile droite partir suite à un coup direct de la DCA Nippone. Il parvint à rejoindre Guadalcanal, ou l’avion fut remis en état!
La maquette Tamiya au 48 date un peu mais reste une excellente base d’autant que Quickboost, Aires etc. ont produits d’excellents sets d’amélioration. La livrée « Bluegray » sur « Light gray » permet de s’exprimer question vieillissement, place donc aux photos!

We no longer present the Corsair, it is a classic, but we often do not know how difficult its beginnings were. The carrier qualification turned into a disaster and the Marines inherited these «sharp» planes, which they knew nothing about. We know that the Marines are followers of the Roudoudou and therefore, catapulted from a PA of escort to Nouméa, they went to land at Turtle bay on the island of Santo aux Nlles-Hebides, then after a quick takeover, moved to Guadalcanal for the reconquest of the Salomons. In July 43, VMF 213 is in combat. During a mission to Munda, Lt George C. Defabio saw part of his right wing depart after a direct hit from DCA Nippone. He managed to reach Guadalcanal, where the plane was repaired!
