AMX 30 DFC ( Démonstrateur Furtif Chenillé ) Prototype.

En 1990, un démonstrateur technologique basé sur l’AMX 30B2 intégrant la technologie furtive, est dirigé par la DGA ( Direction Générale de l’Armement). Le char aurait été enveloppé d’un matériau, absorbant les ondes radars, placé au-dessus de l’acier. Par ailleurs, de l’air froid serait propulsé entre le blindage et ce matériau pour réduire sa signature infrarouge. De cette façon, le tank dégagerait une image thermique très réduite. A cette époque, le programme EPC touchait à sa fin et le char Leclerc était presque prêt à être produit en vue de remplacer la flotte d’AMX 30. Le projet DFC fut abandonné peu de temps après son apparition.  A ce jour, ce prototype serait  en train de subir les aléas du temps dans un camp militaire (Quel dommage !).

Quelques années auparavant, l’industrie militaire allemande a produit un projet similaire à savoir le « Stealth Léopard 1 (E01) »  actuellement entreposé au sein du Deutsch Panzermuseum à Munster (D).

La documentation relative au DFC est quasi inexistante. Je me suis basé sur le RAIDS HS N°5 disposant de trois clichés. Malgré tout, je suis parti d’un vieux Kit Heller car il aurait été dommage d’utiliser le modèle MENG qui  est d’une qualité supérieure.  Pour mener à bien ce projet, j’ai  fabriqué trois gabarits en carton  en vue de déterminer les bons angles de coupe. Bien entendu, une étude préalable des clichés disponibles est nécessaire.  Une fois le bon gabarit déterminé, je bascule du carton au plastique.  Pour faire simple, je fabrique deux coques distinctes l’une destinée au châssis et l’autre à la tourelle. Quant au canon, il est enveloppé de Green Stuff pour obtenir un filet de camouflage. Étonnant, le canon n’a pas été profilé.

J’ai choisi un prototype ayant circulé mais présentant une caisse relativement propre. J’ai utilisé toutes les méthodes de peinture que vous connaissez. Enfin comme à mon habitude, j’utilise du pastel pour mettre en avant l’empoussiérage du véhicule.

At that time, the EPC program was coming to an end and the Leclerc tank was almost ready to be produced to replace the AMX 30 fleet. The DFC project was abandoned shortly after its appearance.  To date, this prototype would be undergoing the vagaries of time in a military camp (What a pity!).

DFC documentation is almost non-existent. I used RAIDS HS No. 5 with three shots. Despite everything, I started with an old Heller Kit because it would have been a shame to use the MENG model which is of a superior quality.  To carry out this project, I made three cardboard templates to determine the right cutting angles. Of course, a preliminary study of the available plates is necessary. Once the right template is determined, I switch from cardboard to plastic.  Simply put, I make two separate shells, one for the chassis and the other for the turret.  As for the barrel, it is wrapped in Green Stuff to obtain a camouflage net. Surprisingly, the barrel has not been profiled.

I chose a prototype that circulated but with a relatively clean body. I used all the painting methods you know. Finally, as usual, I use pastel to highlight the dust of the vehicle.
