Le Temps des Hélices est un incontournable dans le paysage des spectacles aériens en Europe. Traditionnellement, les fanas y consacrent leur week end de Pentecôte.Cette année si le programme ne prévoyait pas de réel scoop, il était bon de retrouver les amis et de sentir les odeurs d’huile de ricin, de saucisse et de crème solaire mélangées, avant d’attaquer celle du jet fuel en plat de résistance. En effet même si les tableaux propres à La Ferté Alais sont reconduits pour notre plus grande joie : les pionniers, 14-18 pour lequel le SPAD XIII de Memorial Flight nous gratifia d’une de ses rares apparitions, piloté de main de maître par Baptiste Salis, et les années folles et ses machines “art-déco” inimitables, avec un Lockheed 12 et un Spartan Executive brillant de mille feux.

Les conflits les plus récents sont en haut du hit parade : 39-45 (un beau duo de Spitfire Mk.V et MK.XIX, un P-40N attaquant la nuée de “méchants” T-6 “Zéro” de Tora Tora Tora, sans oublier le Dakota et le Ju 52 évoquant le transport. Le F4U-5Corsair des Casque de Cuir marqua la transistion avec le conflit coréen, suivi du volet Vietnam, avec cette fois une première sur la Plateau de l’Ardennais, Un avion opérationnel de l’Armée de l’Air encadré de près par la cavalerie US. L’imposant C-130H Hercules du Franche-Comté était escorté par un trio de T-28, un OV-10 Bronco et enfin un Skyraider aux pleines couleurs des “Spad” déployés en Asie du Sud Est.
Nos amis Bretons virent leur patience récompensée par la présence de leur propre force aérienne déployée en nombre, avec un E-2C Hawkeye, un duo de Rafale M et un Atlantique 2, tous basés à Landivisiau et Lann Bihoué, qui furent présentés de façon très spectaculaire. Ils remportèrent le match haut la main cette année, en éliminant sans combattre leur puissant rival, puisque l’Armée de l’Air fut contrainte, bien involontairement de jeter l’éponge, car un vilain orage nous priva du Rafale solo display et une vilaine gastro de la PAF… Heureusement, le dimanche tout rentra dans l’ordre et le spectacle fut complet. Côté gros avions l’Armée de l’Air présenta aussi pour la première fois le majestueux Airbus A330 MRTT Phénix de ravitaillement en vol, suivi comme son ombre par un Rafale B.
Pour le spectacle civil n’oublions pas le patrouille Tranchant et ses 4 historiques Fouga Magister, venus de Rennes Saint-Jacques. Arrivé tout droit de la célèbre écurie autrichienne au taureau rouge bondissant, un Bo 105, nous montra qu’un hélico vole aussi sur le dos.

Si on peut légitimement regretter l’absence en l’air des nouveautés présentes au parking, ce fut encore une très belle édition, qui mérite son succès sans cesse reconduit. Alors, tous en route pour le Temps des Hélices 2023 !

The Time of the Propellers is a must in the landscape of air shows in Europe. Traditionally, fans have dedicated their Pentecost weekend to it.This year, if the program did not include a real scoop, it was good to meet up with friends and smell the smell of castor oil, sausage and sun cream mixed, before attacking that of the jet fuel in the main course. Indeed, even if the paintings of La Ferté Alais are renewed for our greatest joy: the pioneers, 14-18 for which the SPAD XIII of Memorial Flight gratified us with one of its rare apparitions, masterfully piloted by Baptiste Salis, and the Roaring Twenties and its inimitable art-deco machines, with a Lockheed 12 and a brilliant Spartan Executive.
The most recent conflicts are at the top of the hit parade: 39-45 (a beautiful duo of Spitfire Mk. V and MK.XIX, a P-40N attacking the cloud of “bad guys” T-6 “Zero” of Tora Tora Tora, not forgetting Dakota and Ju 52 evoking transport. The F4U-5Corsair of the Leather Helmets was in transience with the Korean conflict, followed by the Vietnam component, this time with a first on the Plateau de l’Ardennais, an operational aircraft of the Air Force closely supervised by the US cavalry.

The imposing C-130H Hercules from Franche-Comté was escorted by a trio of T-28s, an OV-10 Bronco and finally a Skyraider in the full colours of the Spads deployed in South East Asia.
Our Breton friends saw their patience rewarded by the presence of their own air force deployed in number, with an E-2C Hawkeye, a duo of Rafale M and an Atlantic 2, all based in Landivisiau and Lann Bihoué, which were presented in a very spectacular way. They won the match with flying colors this year, eliminating without fighting their powerful rival, since the Air Force was forced, unwittingly to throw in the towel, because a nasty storm deprived us of the Rafale solo display and a nasty gastro of the PAF… Fortunately, on Sunday everything was back to normal and the show was sold out. On the big side, the Air Force also presented for the first time the majestic Airbus A330 MRTT Phoenix air-to-air refuelling aircraft, followed like a shadow by a Rafale B.
For the civil show do not forget the patrol Tranchant and its 4 historical Fouga Magister, from Rennes Saint-Jacques. Coming straight from the famous Austrian stable to the bouncing red bull, a Bo 105, showed us that a helicopter is also flying on its back.

If we can legitimately regret the absence in the air of the novelties present in the parking lot, it was again a very beautiful edition, which deserves its success unceasingly renewed. So, all of you on your way to Propeller Time 2023!
