On peut voir l’historique sur SCALEMATES, Continuing my summer quest with the goal of finishing abandoned kits, I came back from my stock with this EDUARD box, limited edition 1/72, entitled THE BOAT, from the SIKORSKI JRS-1. It is a model taken over by EDUARD in 2016. You can see the history on SCALEMATES,
Sikorsky S-43 « Baby Clipper », Dekno Models E-2900 (199x) ,
There are traces of a first kit, released in the 90s, on the brand DEKNO MODEL, then a drawing of this mold in 2003 at SWORD, then another in 2005 at SPECIAL HOBBY to arrive in 2016 at EDUARD. We are working on a handmade kit, of the « SHORT RUN » type, meaning SHORT PRINT. Here, there are no assembly studs; the molding rods are huge, making loosening very difficult and causing a lot of breakage of thin parts. We are not far from the current standards.

When I opened this box, the kit was well started, but at the time, given the difficulties, it had been quickly abandoned, put away and forgotten. EDUARD did things well, in the box there are two beautiful booklets, large format, glossy paper, one for editing and another for history and lots of photos (text in English). It is a multi-material model, and you will find plastic parts, resin parts for photo-etching, and adhesive glass covers.

So I started by taking back the hull already assembled and copiously chewed. You will need to arm yourself with a good tube of well-chilled putty and be accompanied by some lady patience.
The installation of the cockpit canopy was a sinecure, poorly formed, we had to fight with it. Then masticate thoroughly so you can bring the whole thing up to standard.

The atering trains, very difficult, already to understand how it goes into place, without any holes or markers. At the finish, they are extremely fragile and will not withstand any shock (already reattached three times). Moreover, with the difficulties of de-clustering, there is some breakage and repair work to do.

I braced the floats with very thin brass wire. After drilling holes. It is indeed rigid and should hold.

Installation of several small parts. Since the navigation lights were not molded, I applied a drop of wood glue, which, once hard, was painted in silver and then in translucent red and green paint. I chose a very colorful decor, (it changes the usual camouflages) . A beautiful yellow, green and aluminum livery for an aircraft based in San Diego in August 1938.

For the red strip, despite the advice I give myself, I wanted to go too fast and paint the red directly on the aluminum. It made me something shitty that I had to take back with a layer of matte white and then the red. I added antennas, visible on the illustration of the box to put three wires in it.
IN CONCLUSION: a very nice model, (which is no longer available), for experienced modelers. The whole remains very fragile and it will be necessary to find a good place to preserve it well.
