March 1942, in front of the Japanese advance and the upcoming surrender of the fortress of Corregidor in the Philippines, General MacArthur leaves the fortress and embarks with his family on a PT (Patrol Torpedo boat) towards Australia and a promising destiny that promises … (It is he who will accept the surrender and signature of the Japanese on the battleship Missouri in 1945). It is the beginning of the recognition of the PT BOAT missions. August 1, 1943, Blackett Strait in the Solomon Islands, on a very dark night, the PT boat 109 is rammed by a Japanese destroyer, and sinks. His ‘Pacha’ Lieutenant John F. Kennedy will fight for a week so that the survivors of his crew are rescued and collected by the US Navy. His legend has just begun before he was one day elected President of the United States. That of PT BOATS also enters through the main door. These speedboats, torpedo launchers, will continue to harass the Japanese maritime convoys (Tokyo express) bringing
supply of food, fuel, ammunition, reinforcements of soldiers, etc… in all conquered countries or islets. They will sink an impressive number of Japanese military ships and transports. They will be found in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and a famous June 6, 1944, escorting the ships that will participate in the Normandy landing. In the Pacific, they will often bring their artillery support, strafing along the shores or small streams, to the ‘Marines’ allowing them to progress or clear themselves during their advances.
